882 Compact IC plus – Anion
Problem
Cause
Remedy
Poor reproducibility
of the retention
times
Eluent – Leak in the eluent
path.
Check the eluent path.
Eluent – Blockage in the
eluent path.
Check the eluent path.
Eluent – Gas bubbles in the
eluent.
■
Deaerate the high pressure pump (see
Chapter 3.9.2, page 30).
Suppressor – No (or
insufficient) pump-
ing of regeneration
or rinsing solution
Leak in the system.
Check connections.
Peristaltic pump – contact
pressure too weak.
Correctly set contact pressure (see "Set the
contact pressure", page 41).
Peristaltic pump – filter
blocked .
Replace the filter (see "Replacing the filter",
page 73).
Suppressor – backpressure
too high.
Clean the suppressor (see Chapter 5.11.3.3,
page 76) or replace parts (see Chapter
5.11.3.4, page 78).
Peristaltic pump – pump
tubing defective.
Replace pump tubing.
Chromatograms
have poor resolution
Separation column –
diminished separating effi-
ciency.
■
Regenerate separation column (see Chap-
ter 5.12.4, page 80).
■
Replace separation column (see "Connect-
ing and rinsing the separation column",
page 48).
Extreme spread of
the peaks in the
chromatogram.
Splitting (dual
peaks)
Capillary connections –
dead volume in the system.
Check connections (see Chapter 3.5, page 16)
(use PEEK capillaries with an internal diameter
of 0.25 mm between the injection valve and
detector).
Guard column – diminished
performance.
■
Replace guard column (see Chapter 3.16,
page 46).
Separation column – dead
volume at column head.
■
Install the separation column in reverse
flow direction (if permitted by the leaflet)
and rinse into a beaker.
■
Replace separation column (see "Connect-
ing and rinsing the separation column",
page 48).
Greater rise in the
baseline
Suppressor – reduced
capacity.
