Introduction

The ReNew SMA

When a material testing system to be upgraded has a functioning servomotor and
amplifier, the ReNew SMA can be used. The term SMA stands for “Sans-Motor
Amplifier”, literally meaning that the servomotor and amplifier are not included
in this model.

The ReNew SMA product is most often used for upgrading Instron 4400 and
5500 frames, provided that the existing motor and amplifier are functional. The
sensor signals (load, strain, etc.) can be routed directly to the ReNew SMA box.

The ReNew

SMA-DA

The ReNew SMA is also available as a data acquisition, or “DA” option. In this
case, the role of the controller is only data acquisition, not frame control. As with
all ReNew systems, up to three analog channels and one quadrature (encoder)
channels can be accommodated.
