Turning on the power
This section describes how to turn on the power.
After you turn on the power for the first time, do not turn it off until you
have set up the operating system. Refer to the section Starting up for the
first time in this chapter.
1. Make sure the diskette drive is empty. If a diskette is in the drive,
press the eject button and remove the diskette.
2. Slide the power button lock to the left to unlock the power button.
3. Press and hold the computer’s power button for two or three seconds.

When you first turn on the power, the computer’s initial screen is the
Microsoft Windows 98 Startup Screen Logo. Follow the on-screen
directions for each screen. During setup, you can click the
Back
button
to return to the previous screen.
Be sure to read the
Windows End User License Agreement
display
carefully. Also read all of the information in the
Windows Product Key
screen. This screen asks you to enter the product ID number.
The sealed Windows 98 manual package contains a Certificate of
Authenticity on which the product ID number is written. Enter this ID
number into the
Windows Product Key
screen.
Be sure to read the License Agreement carefully.
