Determining the need to replace a fan assembly
Use one of the following methods to determine the status of the fan assemblies:
• Check the fan status LED on the face of the fan assembly (see Table 8 ).
• Enter one of the following commands in the command line interface to display the fan status:
- show chassis
- show environment fan
Time and items required
Replacing a fan assembly in the Brocade VDX 6730-76 should take less than two minutes to
complete.
You need the following items to replace a fan assembly in the Brocade VDX 6730-76:
• A new fan assembly (must have the same part number and the same airflow label as the fan
assembly being replaced; refer to
Figure 4 on page 7 for the location of the airflow label)
• A #1 Phillips screwdriver
Replacing the fan assembly
Complete the following steps to replace a fan assembly in a Brocade VDX 6730-76.
1. Using the Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the captive screw on the fan assembly.
2. Ensure that the replacement fan assembly has the same part number and airflow label as the
fan assembly being replaced.
3. Remove the fan assembly from the chassis by pulling the handle on the fan assembly out and
away from the chassis.
4. Install the new fan assembly in the chassis:
Steady green Fan assembly is operating normally. No action required.
Steady amber (for more than
5 seconds) Fan fault for one of the following reasons:
•
A fan assembly with mismatched
airflow is present.
•
The fan assembly was disabled by the
user.
•
One or more of the fans in the fan
assembly has failed.
NOTE: When the switch is first powered on,
the fan assembly status LED will
show amber until POST has
completed.
Try one of the following:
•
Replace the mismatched fan
assembly with one that has
the correct airflow direction.
•
Re-enable the fan assembly.
•
Replace the faulty fan
assembly.
