When rotating both capsules of the
microphones to face outside (Wide
stereo position)

The microphone on the right picks up sound
from the right; the microphone on the left
picks up sound from the left.
You can obtain dynamic stereo sound
recording. This position is recommended for
recording a remote sound source such as a
chorus, an orchestra, or other performance of
a large number of people.

To switch the microphone input
sensitivity

Use the MIC ATT switch.
Usually slide it to “0.” When recording loud
sounds, slide it to “20” (page 40).

We recommend a trial recording

The recording environment, including the size
of the room and the speaker’s voice level,
is different for each recording. The desired
sound quality also differs depending on the
subject of the recording. A trial recording
is very effective to prevent failure of an
important recording and create an optimum
recording environment for your recording
purposes.

To reduce noise in the recording

Sounds that may be recorded as noise

The linear PCM recorder may record various
sounds in addition to the target sound. Noises
that may be recorded include:
• A rustling noise that may be caused when

you touch the linear PCM recorder

• Breath that hits the microphones of the

linear PCM recorder

• Sound that may be caused when you touch

a table

• Operation noise of the air-conditioner,

projector, or computer

• Radio wave noise from the smartphone or

mobile phone

The kinds of sounds mentioned above may
be recorded as noise. During recording, do
not touch the linear PCM recorder, make any
sounds that are likely to be recorded as noise,
or bring a device that emits noise closer to the
linear PCM recorder.

Using REC Remote

The smartphone app, REC Remote, installed
on your smartphone allows you to remotely
control the PCM-D10, such as starting or
stopping recording.

Positioning the linear PCM recorder
using a camera tripod (commercially
available)

By attaching a camera tripod (commercially
available) to the hole on the back of the linear
PCM recorder, you can adjust the angles of
the linear PCM recorder and the microphones
more precisely. This also prevents noise
caused when holding the linear PCM recorder
in your hand.
If the attachment screw of your camera
tripod does not fit the hole on the linear PCM
recorder, use a screw adapter (commercially
available).
