A Custom Settings: Fine-Tuning Camera Settings
Choose the flash mode for the built-in flash in P, S, A, and M
modes. When an optional SB-500, SB-400, or SB-300 flash unit is
attached and turned on, this option changes to Optional flash
and is used to choose the flash mode for the optional flash unit.

Description
1 TTL
Flash output is adjusted automatically in response
to shooting conditions.
2 Manual
Choose a flash level. At full power, the built-in
flash has a Guide Number of 12/39 (m/ft., ISO 100,
20 °C/68 °F).

Commander
mode
This option is available when an optional SB-500
flash unit is mounted on the camera accessory
shoe. In commander mode, the SB-500 functions
as a master flash for wireless remote control of
groups of optional off-camera flash units (
