Installation Instructions

Wiring the power connector

The ND 780 includes a power connector that needs to be wired to a suitable power cord;
see Power cord on the previous page.

To wire the power connect:

X

Verify that the power cord is not plugged into the main power supply.

X

Wire the power connector according to the diagram on the right.

Connecting a power cord

To connect a power cord:

X

Verify that the power switch is in the off position.

X

Verify that the power cord is not plugged into the main power supply.

X

Insert the female end of the power cord into the power connector on the rear of the
product.

Data interface connections

Notice

This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic
discharge (ESD)
. Observe precautions for handling ESD sensitive devices and
never touch connector pins unless properly grounded.

Connecting an encoder

This product can be used with HEIDENHAIN linear, and rotary encoders that provide
sinusoidal output (11 μA

PP

or 1 V

PP

) signals. The connecting cable must not exceed

30 meters in length.

To connect an encoder:

X

Verify that the power switch is in the off position.

X

Connect the axis encoder tightly to it’s connector. An input designator is provided near
each connector located on the rear of the product.

Connecting an RS-232-C cable

The RS-232-C port is used for bi-directional communication with a computer. A cross-over
cable must be used. Refer to the ND 780 Operating Instructions for more information
on RS-232-C communications.

To connect an RS-232-C cable:

Verify that the power switch is in the off position.

X

Connect a computer’s RS-232-C port to the ND 780 RS-232-C port (X31) located on the
rear of the product. Use the HEIDENHAIN cable ID 366964-xx.
