Setting up detection zones involves five steps, each of which includes some important sub-
steps. Many of these settings will not need to be altered from their default values, but it is
important to check them anyway to assure optimum radar performance. Also note that these
steps need to be repeated for each radar sensor installed at the site.
Although each sensor is positioned to monitor the site from a different perspective, in most
cases the lanes and detection zones are to be the same for fully redundant operation. So it is
helpful, ahead of time, to label and number the common lanes and detection zones using site-
specific nomenclature such as Northbound Lane, Southbound Lane, Zone 1, Zone 2, and so
forth. Similarly the radar sensors should be numbered Radar 1 and Radar 2. For uniformity,
assign Radar 1 to the lowest serial number amongst the radar sensors being installed and
Radar 2 to the higher serial number.
A configuration checklist follows on the next page. The sections that follow describe each of
those configuration procedures in a step-by-step fashion.
