The Country Flame Model O2 catalytic wood stove is manufactured for use in insert applications only. The Model O2
comes with dual room air blowers. These blowers are mounted one on each side of the stove. These blowers provide
efficient heating and movement of room air. The Model O2 can handle 20-inch cut wood logs. Its firebox can be loaded
with 2.1 cubic feet of cut wood logs. The stove’s firebox is made from 5/16-inch thick steel. Some of the stove’s firebox
parts are made from ½-inch thick steel. This stove weighs over 400 pounds. The large stove door allows for viewing of a
beautiful wood fire. The Model O2 improves the efficiency of any existing masonry or manufactured fireplace where it is
installed.
Install the Model O2 into a) an approved and listed masonry fireplace or b) a zero clearance fireplace. The Model O2 is
the only catalytic stove that is approved and listed as an insert for all factory built fireplaces. The Model O2 installation
must maintain a minimum clearance of 1” (25mm) air space between all sides, back and top from the zero clearance
firebox walls. Do not remove any brick or mortar in order to install a Model O2 as an insert into a masonry fireplace. For
installation of a Model O2 catalytic stove into a zero clearance factory, built fireplace only two modifications are allowed:
1
The fireplace damper may be removed where the Model O2 is to be installed and,
2
The ember catcher located in the base of the fireplace flue may be permanently removed before the O2 is
installed.
Refer to the MODEL O2 (Insert only) section to obtain specifications for the Model O2 insert. In the event additional
information is required and not covered by this manual, please contact Country Flame or an authorized local dealer. If the
Model O2 is installed in a factory built fireplace, use the fireplace manufacturer’s clearance requirements or the O2
clearances, whichever provides the greatest clearance. Always refer to national and local codes. Refer to the Safety Label
on the rear of the stove for the latest clearance and installation instructions before installation. Refer to FIGURE 7 and
TABLE 6 to ensure all minimum clearances are properly maintained during installation. Failure to maintain these
minimum clearances can create overheating of combustible materials. Failure to maintain the proper clearances will void
the Country Flame warranty. Install the Model O2 insert with a minimum of a) 14 inches of clearance to combustible
sidewalls, b) 2 inches of clearance to the fireplace cavity walls, and c) 24inches of clearance from the top of the Model O2
insert to the bottom of any combustible mantel.
Floor protection must be provided from a listed floor protector or any other equivalent non-combustible material. A listed
floor protector must a) have a minimum of an “R” value of 2.0, b) extend a minimum of 8 inches from the stove opening
to each side of the unit, and c) extend a minimum of 18 inches as measured from the face of the Model O2 insert. Model
O2 insert applications require that any hearth extension that was supplied as part of the zero clearance fireplace
installation or part of an existing masonry fireplace must be used; however, there must always be a minimum of 18 inches
(450mm) of floor protection in front of the Model O2 insert as measured from the face of the insert. Use a listed floor
protector with a thermal conductivity of K = 0.85 Btu – inches per square foot per hour per degree Fahrenheit and
equivalent to 3/8” (9.4mm) non-asbestos millboard.
During stove shroud installation, never block any of the zero clearance fireplace vents with the Model O2 shroud. Refer to
the shroud section. If there are questions, please contact Country Flame or one of its authorized local dealers.
Refer to APPENDIX G for information on venting and chimney requirements.
