LONG-TERM STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS (Cont.)

5. General Motor Procedure:

If the motor is not put into service immediately, the motor must be stored in a clean, dry,
warm location. Minimum temperature of 50°F. (10°C,). Several precautionary steps must
be performed to avoid motor damage during storage.

a) Use a “Megger” each month to ensure that integrity of the winding insulation has been

maintained. Record the Megger readings. Immediately investigate any significant drop
in insulation resistance.

b) DO NOT lubricate the motor bearings during storage. Motor bearings are packed

with grease at the factory.

c) If the storage location is damp or humid, the motor windings must be protected

from moisture. This can be done by applying power to the motor’s space heaters,
(IF AVAILABLE) while the motor is in storage. If the motor does not have space
heaters, storing it in a damp or humid location will, very quickly, cause internal
corrosion and motor failure which is not warranted.

NOTE

For specific storage instructions, for the actual motor and any accessory
parts that were supplied, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.
