1. Unscrew and remove the shield cup from the torch.
NOTE
Slag built up on the shield cup that cannot be re-
moved may effect the performance of the system.

2. Inspect the cup for damage. Wipe it clean or replace if
damaged.
3. Using the multi-purpose wrench (5/8 inch slot) re-
move the tip. Check for excessive wear (indicated by
an elongated or oversized orifice). Replace the tip if
necessary.
NOTE
The tip, electrode and gas distributor have o-rings
on each part. The o-rings should be removed and a
light coating of o-ring lubricant (catalog number
8-4025) applied.

4. Tilt the torch head to remove the gas distributor. The
end of the multi-purpose wrench can be used to help
remove the gas distributor.. Check for excessive wear,
plugged gas slots, or discoloration. Replace if neces-
sary.
5. Using the multi-purpose wrench (electrode area) re-
move the electrode. Refer to Figure 5-4 and check the
face of the electrode for excessive wear.

6. Install the electrode and tighten with multi-purpose
wrench. Do not over tighten the electrode. The cir-
cular area around the wrench used for electrodes will
also align the electrode in the torch head. This will
prevent installing electrodes on an angle and cross
threading the electrode in the torch head.
7. Install the gas distributor.
8. Install the tip and tighten with the multi-purpose
wrench. Do not over tighten the tip.
CAUTION
Make sure both the tip and electrode correspond
with the plasma and secondary gases being used,
the current range, and the type of operation. Refer
to Section 4.04, Torch Parts Selection.
