Configure the Module
Chapter 5
Communication Format
The communication format determines the following:
•
Available configuration options
•
Type of data transferred between the module and its owner-controller
•
Tags that are generated when the configuration is complete
•
Connection between the controller writing configuration and the module
itself
Table 12
lists the possible communication format choices. In addition to the
description below, each format returns status data and rolling timestamp data.
Electronic Keying
When you write configuration for a module you can choose how specific the
keying must be when a module is inserted into a slot in the chassis. The following
electronic keying options are available:
•
Compatible Module
•
Disable Keying
•
Exact Match
For more information on electronic keying, see
.
Use the Default
Configuration
If you use the default configuration and click Finish, you are done.
Table 12 - Communication Formats on the High-speed Analog I/O Module
Format
Definition
Archiving Connection
Module stores 20 input data samples for each channel in the module’s on-board
buffers before it sends the I/O data to the controller.
Float Data
Module returns floating point data.
CST Timestamped Float Data
Module returns floating point data with the value of the system clock (from its local
chassis) when the data is sampled.
Listen-only CST Timestamped
Float Data
Module returns floating point data with the value of the system clock from its local
chassis when the data is sampled to a controller that does not own the module.
Listen-only Float Data
Module returns floating point data to a controller that does not own the module.
IMPORTANT
Once the module is created, the communication format cannot be changed.
The module must be deleted and recreated.
