Exporting Data from SMS Mobile
SMS Mobile provides the ability to export data directly from your mobile device without
having to sync or import into the desktop software. Currently you can only export files in the
ESRI shape file format.
When exporting, you can either manually select datasets to export from SMS Mobile or you
can use a Date Range selection to automatically select all datasets created/edited in a
selected data range. This is the preferred method because it automatically keeps track of
when you last exported and automatically increments the date ranges each time you export so
that you are assured that when you export you are only exporting new/edited datasets since
the last time you exported and not always exporting the same data. You also have a chance to
review datasets that will be exported and can manually delete any unwanted datasets.
You also have the ability to modify what management items are exported. By default you
always get all attributes that were logged/created with your datasets. You can adjust what
management items are exported with your datasets. Defaults are provided but you can
change the list of properties to export for your data to include information that you want
included in the shape files. So for example, you might decide you need to export the EPA
Number for the products you logged as well as the FSA and Insurance Numbers for your
Fields that are being exported.
When exporting, you also have the option of how to merge datasets into export files. You can
export data at the Field, Operation, or Dataset level. This means that if you select the
Operation level for example that all datasets that are found for the same operation, will be
merged into a single export file (actually 3 files for the shape file format) containing all the
fields and datasets you have selected to export for each unique operation found.
It should also be noted that when exporting, the export file names will be created based on the
data being exported in that file and the merge level selected to try to generate a unique name.
