SMS site hierarchy
SMS sites are arranged in a hierarchy.
Using the inventory tool requires an understanding of the SMS site hierarchy. This hierarchy can include
several site categories:
Category Description
Central site Single SMS site that stores system-wide information in a
Microsoft® SQL Server database. Manages all other SMS sites.
Primary site Stores subsystem information in an SMS database. Can
manage additional primary or secondary sites. Created by
running the SMS setup application.
Secondary site Stores information in the SMS database of the associated
primary site. Manages no additional sites. Created by the
associated primary site.
