Electrical Faults
PROBABLE CAUSE
REMEDY
A. Motor fails to start
1. Power supply failure.
1. Check fuses.
2. Starter is inoperative.
2. Check supply mains. Also,
check starter contacts for burning,
replace if necessary.
3. Starter overloads cut out.
3. Check current requirements on
motor nameplate and adjust.
4. Safety interlock is inoperative. 4. Check and adjust as needed.
B. Motor starts, but will not take
load.
1. Too much belt tension.
1. Check belt tension and adjust
as necessary. Refer to section 4.
2. Motor is improperly wired.
2. Check terminal connection
with manufacturers connection
diagram in conduit box and adjust
as necessary.
3. Defective starter winding.
3. Check current in each phase
with an ammeter. If there is
marked difference in current on
any phase, contact the motor
manufacturer.
C. Motor starts when
disconnected from load, but will
not when connected.
1. Worn bearings.
1. Check and replace if necessary,
in accordance with manufacturers
literature.
