BATTERY COMMISSIONING

The diesel pump is supplied with pre-charged starting batteries. The pump must be put into

service within 3-4 months. If the storage period exceeds this term, follow the instructions

provided by the battery manufacturer.

For safety reasons, and to prevent any accidental start-ups, the batteries are supplied

disconnected.

Make sure the battery poles are clean: if necessary, clean them using a brush or other

suitable tool

Always make the connection starting from the positive terminal

To disconnect the battery, always start from the negative ground terminal

Fasten the terminals tightly

The batteries contain sulphuric acid (corrosive) and release an explosive gas, especially while

charging. Observe all safety measures provided by law.

Keep naked flames and cigarettes away from the battery and avoid generating any sparks. Do

not bend over batteries when they are running and during the installation and removal

operations. The batteries contain lead; for disposal they must be consigned to a licensed

battery disposal centre.

The batteries can release corrosive and harmful substances – use suitable

protection devices!

PRELIMINARY SAFETY CHECKS BEFORE COMMISSIONING

Before beginning any start-up procedures it is very important that you familiarize yourself

with the set and the system.

Perform a visual safety check of the machine’s workplace and installation.

All sources of real or potential danger must be eliminated before proceeding.

1) Identify the position of the emergency start buttons and also the position of the

electrical panels.

2) Learn about the emergency procedures pertaining to the relevant installation.

3) Identify the position of the fire extinguishers and all other protection and emergency

devices, and learn about their operation.

4) Identify sources of danger, such as leaks of fuel, lubricating oil and acid solutions,

condensate in the drip pans, high voltages, high pressures and other hazards.

5) Make sure the set is clean and that the surrounding area and escape routes are clean

and free from obstacles. Make sure that openings, inlets and breathers are not clogged.

6) Look out for other personnel that might be working on other equipment in the area, and

make sure that their work does not affect the proper operation of the system.

Never start the diesel pump unless all the safety measures have been observed!
