Front Lowering Kit for Yamaha Road Star

CAUTION: We strongly recommend a qualified Yamaha technician install

this kit. Please read ALL of the instructions BEFORE installation.

Revision: 1.2 - 12/03/2012

INCLUDED IN THE KIT:

(4) Washers

(2) Thin Wall Preload Spacers

(2) Aluminum Spacers

(2) Fork Springs

INSTRUCTIONS:

WARNING: The installation of these products will lower your motorcycle approximately 1.5 inches. This places
the motorcycles chassis, floorboards, exhaust and other equipment approximately 1.5 inches closer to the
ground. It is crucial to understand that these items as well as similar equipment will more readily contact the
surface of the road when cornering AT ANY SPEED. Should this contact occur, the result could be loss of
vehicle control or damage to equipment. We do not recommend a lowered motorcycle be ridden with a
passenger! Baron Custom Accessories accepts no liability whatsoever for injury or damage resulting from the
installation of these products.

Remove the front forks from the motorcycle.

Disassemble the forks sufficiently to remove the damping rods.

Slide Barons machined aluminum top-out spacers onto each forks damping rod. These are installed in
front of the small, OEM top-out spring.

Slide the OEM top-out spring onto the damping rod.

Reassemble the forks, installing Barons lowering spring in place of the OEM fork spring.

Spring preload: For a firmer ride, install supplied 161mm long preload spacer as is. For a softer ride, cut the
spacer 10mm shorter (this will result in approximately 30mm of spring preload, which is close to stock settings).
A tubing cutter, available at most hardware and home project stores, is recommended for proper cutting of
tube.

Install new preload spacers in forks. The washers supplied in the kit must be installed on both ends of the
spacers.

Note: The spacer cannot directly rest on either the spring or the cap!

Fill forks with fork oil of the correct viscosity according to YAMAHA recommendations. (oil level: 110mm
from top, spring out, fork compressed)

Reinstall forks per standard Yamaha shop manual procedures

Our install guides provide a basic outline on the proper installation of our products. Further tuning and/or
