Departments Involved with Site Plan Review:
While it is common for one department to serve as the point of contact with respect to facilitating the
site plan review process, these applications are frequently distributed among other agencies and
departments. The summary below highlights other departments and external agencies that participate
in the review. Please note that the referenced percentages denote the percent of respondents that
engage the respective departments and agencies.

Among the departments, agencies and organizations referenced in the
“Other” category included:
state
departments of transportation, local/regional transit agencies, external consultants, economic
development agencies, solid waste agencies, code enforcement, GIS, landscaping, school districts,
water and soil conservation districts, electric utility, and recreational departments.
In addition, the questionnaire asked respondents to identify tasks that are common to the site plan
review process. Figure 1 illustrates many of the common procedures associated with Site Plan Review.
The flow chart diagram identifies key tasks associated with the process and references the frequency
(expressed as a percentage) of respondents performing the cited task. For example, 81% of the
respondents encourage a prospective developer to conduct a pre-submission meeting with relevant
staff/departments. Likewise, of the responding communities 94% and 9% accept hard copy and
electronic applications, respectively.
