Hardware | Current Status
Clicking on “Current Status” will display the OMS version that is in use, plus
the MIDISPORT’s firmware revision number. Clicking “SMPTE Test” will
display the SMPTE time seen at the input as well as the frame rate that is being
detected. This is useful when reading and/or regenerating SMPTE.
The Select Menu
This menu allows the user to select between the Remote Control, the Diagnostic
test, and the Patchbay functions. Running the application opens up the Remote
Control, so clicking on “Diagnostic” from the Select menu will then open the
Diagnostic test. Clicking one or the other from the Select menu will bring that
window to the forefront. See section “Running the Diagnostics.”
Select | Patchbay
Selecting “Patchbay” brings up the Patchbay Setup dialog box, enabling the user
to create a patchbay configuration that will be remembered by the MIDISPORT.
This patchbay setup can be used when the MIDISPORT is in standalone
“Patchbay” mode. See section, “Remote Control Patchbay Operation” that
follows.
Help
The Help menu will allow you to either show or hide “Balloon” help. One can
also select “About Balloon Help” for information about Balloons.
Remote Control Patchbay Operation
The patchbay functions of the MIDISPORT 8x8/s are configured by the Remote
Control Software and saved in the internal memory of the MIDISPORT 8x8/s.
You must be using your MIDISPORT in one of the three interface modes, USB,
serial PC or serial Mac, while writing patchbay settings into memory. Then, you
must exit the interface mode into standalone “Patchbay” mode in order to use
the patchbay settings with your MIDISPORT.
Once you have saved a set of patchbay programs, from one patchbay program
up to a possible eight programs, they are permanently available for use when the
MIDISPORT 8x8/s is in Patchbay mode. You may choose to reconfigure, or
overwrite your patchbay setings at any time.
The MIDISPORT is in Patchbay mode when it is not being used as an interface
and when “Thru” mode or “Cable Test” is not selected from the front panel. The
condition under which your MIDISPORT will function in Patchbay mode is as
follows:
Power up the MIDISPORT while it is completely unattached to the host
computer, or connected to the host computer with the computer powered off.
Then select either USB, PC, or Mac modes using the front panel Mode switch.
