Longitudinal Zone

Offset

A simple way to determine your local time offset is how many
hours you are behind or ahead of UTC (also called ‘Greenwich’
or ‘zulu’ time).
Example: EST (Eastern Standard Time) is 5 hours behind
UTC, so your offset would be -5. Adding one hour for
daylight savings would make EDT (Eastern Daylight Time)
- 4. Subtract an hour for each time zone as you travel west.

Offsets for Continental U.S. would be:
EST

-5

EDT

-4

CST

-6

CDT

-5

MST

-7

MDT

-6

PST

-8

PDT
