Adding Handles

To view video, make sure you have configuring VTR Ingest for video viewing. For
more information, see

“Configuring VTR Ingest (VTR)” on page 28

.

This section is divided into the following topics:

“Adding Handles”

“Creating a Segment List”

“Controlling the VTR with VTR Ingest”

“Marking In and Out Points”

“Deleting the Segment List”

“Recording Clips to the Media Server”

Adding Handles

If you add handles to your clips, you will have additional frames to choose from when
trimming your clips. Grass Valley recommends handles be used.

To use handles:, click the

Record Handle

button.

To set the duration of the handles, see

“Configuring System Settings” on page 13

.

Creating a Segment List

To create a segment (or batch) list:

1. Insert a tape into the VTR.

2. Click

Tape ID

and name this videotape.

If you don’t enter a Tape ID, Aurora Ingest prompts you before you add the first
clip.

3. Play through the videotape to get the footage you need (see

“Controlling the VTR

with VTR Ingest” on page 58

).

4. If desired, name the clip.

If not, Aurora Ingest will automatically name each clip using the prefix you set
when you configured each channel. Refer to

“Configuring Channels” on page 22

.

5. Select a different record location for the clip, if you want to.

6. Mark an In and Out point for the clip (see

“Marking In and Out Points” on

page 59

).

7. Click

Add Segment to List

or press

C

on your keyboard.

The clip is added to the list in the Channel Window.

8. Repeat steps 3-7 for additional clips.

9. To use additional tapes, insert a new tape into the VTR and repeat the steps above.

When you eject a tape, Aurora Ingest clears the tape ID field. You can add the new
videotape name anytime after you insert a new tape; if you haven’t entered a new
Tape ID before you add the first clip from that tape to the segment (batch) list,
Aurora Ingest prompts you to add one.
