Installation procedure
1. Remove the protection cover before installing a card:
a. Put on an ESD wrist strap and then loosen the captive screws that fix the card to the protection
cover with a Philips screwdriver.
b. Pull the card out of the protection cover gently, as shown in Figure 33 .
Keep the protection cover for future use.

2. Rotate out the ejector levers. Supporting the bottom of the card with both hands, slowly push the
card into the slot along the guide rails.
3. Close the ejector levers to fully seat the card in the backplane.
4. Position the screws into the holes and fasten them with a screwdriver to secure the card.

Installing a subcard
This section describes how to install a PIC subcard in an SPE base card, and an MIC subcard in an MPE
base card. MIC subcards are hot-swappable; PIC subcards are not hot-swappable.
The installation of an SPE or MPE base card is the same as an ordinary card. For more information, see
" Installing a card ."
