Key Field Descriptions
Symbology characteristics to consider when creating key fields in your database:
UPC Version “A”
The UPC-A database key must be made up of all 12 digits in the barcode (including the Mod
check digit). When a 2 or 5 digit addendum is scanned, these additional digits must be
appended to the end of the database key.
UPC Version “E”
The UPC-E database key must be made up of all 8 digits in the barcode (including the Mod
check digit). When a 2 or 5 digit addendum is scanned, these additional digits must be
appended to the end of the database key.
