Using Program AE
When you use the PROGRAM AE (Auto Exposure) function, you can create a 'portrait"
effect (shallow depth of field) or capture high-speed action with the “sports* mode or “high
speed shutter" mode.
What is PROGRAM AE (Auto Exposure)?
Program AE automatically selects just the right combination of shutter and aperture
settings and gives you creative control of depth over field (range of that will be in sharp
focus). There are four preprogrammed modes: Normal (no indicator). Portrait tb . Sports
and High-speed shutter -f. (See pages 38 to 42.)
Portrait Mode
In Portrait mode, the object is in focus and the background is out
^
of focus. Therefore, you can use this mode to highlight the
subject. The aperture is controlled to open by automatically
selecting the shutter speed (between 1/60 to 1/1850 that
matches the shooting situation) to maintain the appropriate
exposure. Portrait mode is most effective when used outdoors.
You may want to use Portrait mode in the following situations:
• a still subject such as a person or a flower
• zooming in on a subject
• when there is something between the camera and the subject,
such as a chain link fence
