Intel Storage Server SSR212MC2R Boot Drive Options
The Intel Storage Server SSR2 1 2MC2R includes an Intel RAID Controller
SRCSATAWB to support hardware RAID. The twelve SAS/SATA drives plugged
into the backplane are connected to the Intel RAID Controller SRCSAS 144E via the
mini-SAS to mini-SAS cable. The twelve drives can be populated with either SAS
or SATA drives. See the Tested Hardware and Operating Systems List at
http://support.intel.com/support/ motherboards/server for a list of supported
drives and/or operating systems. The boot drives can be used as either SATA or
SAS drives and are connected to the SAS 0 and SAS 1 ports on the server board.
The software RAID on the server board can be used to setup the drives installed in
the boot drive module. Refer to the Intel Server Board S5000PSL User Guide for
information on setting up the server board to support either SATA or SAS options.

information on setting up RAID 0 or RAID 1 options using these boot drives.
The twelve drives connected to the storage array backplane are controlled by the
Intel RAID Controller SRCSATAWB. See the Intel RAID Controller SRCSATAWB
Software User Guide and Hardware Guide for information on configuring RAID
options. See “Setting up RAID on the Intel Storage Server SSR212MC2R” on page
137 for instructions on setting up virtual disks on the Intel Storage Server SSR2 1
2MC2R. If desired, operating systems can be loaded onto drives connected to the
Intel RAID Controller SRCSATAWB, stored on boot drives or loaded on a USB or
SATA DOM.
