Tape Library Control Path
Configuration Guidelines
Applications request labeled tape volumes (physical tapes) using CLASS TAPE
DEFINEs or CLASS TAPECATALOG DEFINEs. If a requested tape volume physically
resides in a tape library, the NonStop Kernel tape server process ($ZSVR)
automatically sends a request to the tape library to mount the tape cartridge in a tape
drive. In most circumstances, no operator intervention is required.
All operational commands related to tape library control are entered through the
ACSLS library server (such as a Sun workstation) or Silo Media Manager (SMM).
The MEDIACOM operator interface is used to:

Initially map the physical location of a tape drive in a tape library using ACSLS to
the NonStop Kernel system tape drive name. $ZSVR then automatically starts a
Storage Server Interface process ($ZSSI) to communicate with the tape library as
needed.

Allows you to activate the automatic reselection of tapes for TMF and DSM/TC
scratch tape requests if the first tape volume chosen does not reside in the tape
library.

Provides support for the activation of compression mode when writing data to tape.
Note. This step does not apply to tape libraries using SMM.
