About This Manual

This manual is a guide to the basic concepts and functions of the Distributed Systems
Management/Tape Catalog (DSM/TC) product. It provides introductory and conceptual
information, and configuration and usage guidelines for users who are responsible for
configuring, managing, and maintaining the DSM/TC software system.

Audience

The primary audience is system administrators who are responsible for configuring a
tape management system.

Section 1, Introduction to
DSM/TC

Provides information on tape and tape file management
and introduces DSM/TC components and system terms.

Section 2, Tape File Concepts

Provides information on DSM/TC tape file concepts such
as file generations, tape file versions, and file retention
periods. Also explains how to manually run the DSM/TC
automated tape file expiration process.

Section 5, Configuring DSM/TC

Provides information on the DSM/TC relationships to
NonStop Transaction Management Facility (TMF) and
HP NonStop SQL/MP. Includes DSM/TC database
