6.0 Maintenance
6.1 Securing the Seed Drill Machine for
Service
6.2 General Service Reminders
Make sure wing lock pins are securely placed and locked, if servicing is
necessary, with the wing sections folded up.
For all servicing and repair work on the hydraulic system, the wing
sections must be folded out and the opener shanks in the lowered
position.
Disconnect the seed drill machine's power cable from the tractor
during maintenance and servicing.
Unplug modules whenever welding is being done on the drill.
DANGER! Never crawl under the machine's chassis unless tractor
is shut off and the pressure from the hydraulics has been bled off.
Make sure hoses are disconnected from the tractor.
• A machine is only as good as the service it receives.
• Grease the implement according to the grease table intervals, and always
prior to and after winter storage and after high-pressure water cleaning.
Refer to Section 6.6 for the Maintenance Schedule.
• Before transport, make sure that all screws and nuts are tight. During the
season, check periodically that the nuts and bolts have not worked loose
and inspect joints and hydraulic ram mountings for wear.
• Check daily that the oil cooler is not blocked by dust and dirt, if installed.
• Regularly check the air pressure in the transport and seed drill packer
wheel tires.
• Following 10-15km of transport on the road, re-tighten the wheel nuts.
Re-tighten the nuts similarly after changing wheels. Wheel nuts must be
tightened and checked for tightness using a torque wrench. Refer to Section
3.1.4 for tire torque specifications.
• Bolts and nuts forming part of a joint must not be tightened so much that
the jointed parts are clamped to each other and cannot pivot freely.
• Inspect hoses and couplings regularly to ensure that they are not damaged
and in good working order.
• Be sure to keep dirt away whenever work needs to be performed on the
hydraulic system. Clean off with clean paper or rags. Place parts on a clean
surface (not straight on to the work bench). Rinse before assembling with a
degreasing agent.
• Smear grease or oil on to the piston rods if the seed drill is not going to be
used for long periods of time, and always after cleaning it.
