4.2 Changing the Setpoint

Press either the UP/DWN buttons on the controller. Each press will advance the setpoint 1
degree. To advance faster, press and hold for 5 seconds until it advances a few degrees/second.
Let go when it is near the desired setpoint. Press again to bring it to the exact value desired.
Note that this setpoint will be retained when power is turned off.

4.2.1 Controller Safety Features

The controller has been programmed to protect against overheating (greater than 1700 °C) and
to protect the cavity from thermal transients that can reduce cavity life. The maximum heat rate
has been factory set to 20 °C/min. When the setpoint is raised, the lower display (working
setpoint) will ramp up to the final destination setpoint at the rate described above. If the
setpoint is lowered, the new setpoint will immediately go to the lower setpoint. Again, this is to

preserve cavity and heater life. Cycling of heater power on and off is normal during heat up to
ensure the heating rate does not exceed 20 °C/min.

4.3 Shutting Down

Turn off power using the power ON/OFF switch.

Warning: DO NOT UNPLUG THE M330! The blackbody has a temperature

controlled cooling fan that remains active until the enclosure temperature is

below about 140 °F. If the power is interrupted by external means, this cooling will
not occur and the devices in the enclosure may overheat. If power fails during high
temperature use, remove the top, rear cover plate to allow better convection cooling
until the blackbody is cool.
