ASCII protocol: Direct serial connection between signal condi-
tioning instrument and PC for enquiry with terminal programs, e.g.
Hyperterminal
1. When connecting a modem for e-mail transmission, choose the
option "PPP".
When connecting a modem, you should switch on this option so that it
will be provided with parameters necessary for data transmission.
The Point to Point Protocol (PPP) enables the transmission of LAN
protocols (e.g. http) via point-to-point connection. PPP connections
are e.g.:
•
Switched connections via the analogue telephone network with
analogue, ISDN and GSM modem
•
Standard connections
2. For sending e-mails select under "Dialing directions" the option
"Dial-out (outgoing connections)".
3. Enter under "Access data for connection to the Internet service
provider" the following data which you get from your Internet
provider:
4. Enter the dial-in number of your Internet access.
5. Enter the number of redialing attempts if the connection cannot
be reached or is occupied.
6. Enter the user name for your Internet access.
7. Enter the password for your Internet access.
The field "Host IP address for ISP emulation" remains empty.
Configuration of the e-mail account
Here you can enter a name which should be displayed instead of the
e-mail address. The name is for a better readability at the addressee
because the real account name is using from time to time a not very
meaningful expression.
The e-mail address constitutes the actual account name that is set up
for the signal conditioning instrument with your e-mail provider. If no
alias is given, this address is shown to the addressee as the sender
of the e-mail.
Since the signal conditioning instrument cannot receive e-mails, there
is the possibility to state an alternative e-mail address. An answering
mail is sent to this address if the addressee is answering to the e-mail
of the signal conditioning instrument.
Configuration of the e-mail server
