read
To retrieve data from memory or mass storage (hard disk, floppy
diskette, etc.).
resolution
A measure expressing the number of component units in a given
range used to create an image; in printing, expressed as the
number of dots per inch (dpi) horizontally and vertically.
ROM
Acronym for Read Only Memory. Programs, instructions, and
routines permanently stored in the printer that cannot be written
to. Files in ROM are not lost when power is turned off.
(ROM–resident fonts are fonts permanently stored in a printer
and available at any time via software commands.)
stop bits
The signal which indicates the end of a character or element.
toner
A fine, negatively–charged, black, powdery substance used to
develop an image.
toner cartridge
Contains the toner (ink) that will be used to make marks on the
paper.
transfer corona
The transfer corona causes the developed image to be attracted
away from the photo–conductor belt and placed onto the surface
of the paper.
twinax
Twinaxial. A type of cable with two wires surrounded by
insulation and a braided shield.
write
To place data in memory (RAM, NVRAM) or in mass storage
(hard disk, floppy diskette, etc.).
