1 UCHM Overview
As an IMC service component, Unified Communications Health Manager (UCHM) provides a solution
for monitoring the health status of networks deployed with Microsoft Lync Server. Use it to manage
network resources including the Lync Servers, PSTN gateways, and Lync client endpoints.
Features
UCHM provides the following features:
• Auto discovery—Utilizes a Topology Builder configuration file to search the network and add all
found Lync servers and PSTN gateways to UCHM. This feature eliminates the need for manual
device import and prevents import errors.
• Dynamic Lync client management—Dynamically adds Lync endpoints for management by
scanning call statistics in the QoEMetrics database.
• Lync call history—Provides the call history and calling quality of Lync endpoints.
• Real-time network health monitoring—Periodically sends NQA probe packets to monitor network
link status, network performance, and Lync service quality in real time. UCHM displays the
monitoring data in diagrams and tables.
• Diagnosis and troubleshooting—Leverages the NQA protocol in Lync end-to-end tests for diagnosis
and troubleshooting purposes.
