Setting up an IRF fabric (centralized IRF devices)
This chapter guides you through the IRF fabric setup procedure for centralized IRF devices.
Hardware compatibility
Member devices in an IRF fabric must be devices from the same series.
General restrictions and configuration guidelines
For a successful IRF setup, follow the restrictions and guidelines in this section and the setup procedure
Setup and configuration task list
IRF fabric size and member ID restrictions
To ensure a successful IRF setup, follow these IRF size and member ID restrictions:
•
An IRF fabric can contain a maximum of two devices.
•
The member ID assigned to a member device must be 1 or 2.
Software requirements
All IRF member devices must run the same software image version. Make sure the software auto-update
feature is enabled on all member devices.
IRF physical interface requirements
Use the following interfaces for IRF links:
•
1000BASE-T Ethernet copper ports.
•
SFP ports.
•
SFP+ ports.
Connecting IRF ports
When you connect two neighboring IRF members, follow these restrictions and guidelines:
•
You must connect the physical interfaces of IRF-port 1 on one member to the physical interfaces of
IRF-port 2 on the other. The physical interfaces must be the same type. The two ends of an
aggregate IRF link must have the same number of physical interfaces.
•
Do not connect physical interfaces of both IRF ports on one member device to the physical
interfaces of both IRF ports on the other.
