Jams in the Printer
If a jam occurs; immediately STOP the system by pressing any of the Emergency Stop buttons.
Some possible reasons for jamming are:
1. Feeding more than one piece of media (overlapping, double-feeding). Reset feeder
separation.
2. Damaged media, such a dog-eared (turn down corners).
3. Media that is not stiff enough may not be usable. Media that meets Postal stiffness
requirements for automated feeding is acceptable for use in the printer.
4. Envelopes that are caught under the flap of another envelope (nested) or stuck to one
another may cause jamming.
Note: A print recovery must be performed after a jam. Up to 10 of the last records can be
reprinted using the print recovery feature. See “Print Recovery after a Jam” for details.
Removing Jammed Media
The right-hand side of the printer is attached to the base, with a hinge device. This hinge
permits the printer to be swung up, to remove any jammed media and for cleaning access.
1. Shut down (stop) the system by pressing one of
the Emergency STOP buttons.
2. To release the printer; press down on the grab
handle, located at the left side of the printer,
while releasing the two latches on the left-hand
side of the printer.
3. Carefully swing up the printer using the grab
handle. Be careful not to pull or catch on any of
the wires that attach to the printer.
CAUTION: To make sure the printer doesn’t
accidently swing closed; keep one hand on the
grab handle at all times. If necessary; locate a
second person to assist you.
4. Remove all pieces of media from the feed path.
Tip: If the bottoms of the print units are dirty
(covered with ink); they should be cleaned using
a soft damp cloth, at this time.
5. Carefully swing the printer back down.
6. Press down on the grab handle and lock the
printer in place by closing the two latches.
7. To re-print lost records; follow the instructions
found in “Print Recovery After a Jam”.
