7 Quality of Service (QoS)
7.1 Introduction
Quality of Service (QoS) is used to provide different priorities for different traffic on the
ports of a switch.
The ESML6-P3 supports two kinds of scheduling modes: HQ-PREEMPT/STRICT and WRR
(Weighted Round Robin). WRR schedules data packets according to their weight ratio. In
HQ-PREEMPT/STRICT mode, services with the highest priorities are forwarded first after
which the scheduling is carried out according to the weight ratio. The weight ratio can be
set as either 8,4,2 or 1, with 8 being the highest priority and 1 the lowest.
The ESML6-P3 supports 3 types of scheduling strategies: port based (highest priority),
TOS/DIFF and 802.1p (lowest priority). Port based priority only maps 2 queues either
highest or lowest, TOS/DIFF and 802.1p support 4 queues.
7.2 QoS configuration
7.2.1 Enabling QoS
SWITCH(config)# qos enable
7.2.2 Disabling QoS
SWITCH(config)# qos disable
7.2.3 QOS scheduling mode configuration
Configuring HQ-PREEMPT mode:
SWITCH(config)# qos schedule-mode hq-preempt
Configure WRR mode:
SWITCH(config)# qos schedule-mode wrr
7.2.4 Configuring scheduling strategies
Enabling port-based scheduling strategy:
SWITCH(config)# qos policy port-based add/delete port <1-MAX>
