ENGINE PROBLEMS
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE CORRECTION
Engine does not start
(Cont.) Interlock switch inactivated, parking brake not set
and/or mower blade drive activated
Operator must be on the seat, the brake pedal must be
depressed, and the mower blade drive must be
desengaged or the interlock system will prevent engine
from starting
Battery discharged or dead. Poor battery lead
connection Charge/replace battery. Check, clean and tighten
battery leads as necessary
Loose, broken or corroded interlock, ignition or starter
wires Find and repair
Bad spark plug Clean or replace and re-gap as necessary
Fuel tank vent plugged Clear vent in fuel tank cap
Malfunctioning starter motor Have unit serviced by authorized dealer
Malfunctioning engine Have unit serviced by authorized dealer
Water in fuel. Stale fuel Drain fuel tank. Re-fill with fresh fuel.
Malfunctioning starter solenoid Replace solenoid
Engine runs poorly Bad spark plug Clean or replace and re-gap as necessary
Clogged air cleaner Clean or replace as necessary
Throttle out of adjustment Refer to engine owner's manual
Water in fuel. Stale fuel Drain fuel tank. Re-fill with fresh fuel.
Carburetor out of adjustment Refer to engine owner's manual
Engine lugs down (overloaded) Raise cutting height
Engine overheats Loose spark plug Tighten spark plug
Low oil level Add oil as necessary
Engiine over-filled with oil Remove oil as necessary
Engine air screen and/or cooling fins clogged with
debris Clean debris from engine
Carburetor out of adjustment See engine owner's manual
