MEDIA SERVER USER MANUAL
Note: Many standard resolution/frequency combinations can be selected in the Fullscreen mode section of the Setup
tab. To use a resolution and/or frequency that is different from the standard choices, select "Custom" on the pop-up
menu and manually enter the resolution and frequency in the fields below the pop-up. Refer to
Example - To get Mbox to output 720p/59.94Hz, do the following:
Step
1. Open Mac Displays Preference window.
Step
2. Using switch combinations outlined on
, change EDID set on both outputs of the I/O module to the
PRG-MbE 59.94Hz set.
Step
3. At Displays Preference window, click Detect Displays button. Reset desktop resolution/frequency of both
displays to 1280 x 720 and 59.94Hz.
Step
4. At Mbox Setup tab Fullscreen mode section, select "HD-SDI 720p59.94" in pop-up menu.
When using the Custom Fullscreen mode, the Frequency combo box has preset values that cover all of the
standard frequencies. The result of the settings will depend on the current EDID set (an "X" indicates an
invalid combination that should not be used).
The result of any selection when using custom EDID (captured from an external display device) will depend on which
frequencies the device supports. If the selected frequency is supported in the custom EDID set, you will get it. In all
cases, when you attempt to use an unsupported frequency, you will get an undesirable result.
Genlock (Generator Lock)
Note: This section only applies to the rental Mbox Extreme server.
The function of Genlock is to tell the server when to start drawing each frame of video. This function can be synced so
that all Mbox Extreme servers in the system will start drawing at the same time. The Mbox Dual I/O Module provides
the the ability to synchronize - or "genlock" - the video outputs of the module to an external genlock source. The I/O
module can also output a genlock signal to other devices, as desired. Genlock Input and Output connectors are
provided on the I/O module for this purpose. (Note that only the top pair of Genlock connectors on each module are
active.)
Note: The Dual I/O Module only supports composite sync input. It does not support tri-level sync.
CAUTION!
The Genlock Out is not a pass-thru. This output should only be used if you wish to use that particular
Mbox Extreme server as the master for syncing (rather than a daisy-chain port).
