Receiving Faxes
TEL mode
(answering all calls manually)
When you use the TEL mode on line 1, turn the AUTO
ANSWER mode off. If the AUTO ANSWER light is on,
press [AUTO ANSWER],
•The display will show the following.
Display:

When an incoming call arrives on either line 1 or 2, the
line indicator that the call is arriving will flash red.

When the unit rings, lift the handset to answer the
call.
•The calling line is selected automatically and the
line indicator lights green.
When:
—document reception is required,
—a fax calling tone (slow beep) is heard, or
—no sound is heard,
press (START/SET/COPY).
CONNECTING
•The line indicator lights red.
Replace the handset.
•The unit will start reception.
Note:
• If you do not answer the call within 15 rings,
the unit will temporarily switch to the fax and
the caller can send documents.
To stop receiving the document
Press [STOP).
Friendly reception feature
When you answer a call and hear a fax calling tone
(slow beep), the unit will automatically start
receiving.
• If this feature is not required, set to “OFF” (p. 94).
To receive documents during a
telephone conversation
1. Press [HOLD] to put the first call on hold.
•The line indicator flashes green.
2. Press the other line button to answer the second
call.
3. Press [START/SET/COPY].
4. To return to the first call, press the line button of
the first call.
Memory reception
When a printing problem is detected, the unit will
temporarily store the received document into
memory.
While document is in memory, the unit will:
—display an error message and the following
message alternately.
Display:
FAX IN MEMORY
—alert you with slow beeps (memory reception
alert).
• Follow the instructions on pages 100 and 101 to
solve the problem and print the stored document.
