Problem
Cause & Remedy
The other party complains that
letters on their received document
are distorted.
o If your line has special telephone sen/ices such as call waiting, the
service may have been activated during fax transmission. Connect
the unit to a line that does not have these services,
o The extension telephone on the same line is off the hook. Hang up
the extension telephone and try again.
The other party complains that dirty
patterns or black lines appear on
their received documents.
o The glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 120).
1 cannot make an international fax
call.
o Use the overseas transmission mode (p. 68).
o Add two pauses at the end of the telephone number (p. 36) or dial
manually.

Cause & Remedy
1 cannot receive documents
automatically.
o The receive mode is set to the TEL mode. Set to the TAD/FAX,
FAX ONLY or TEL/FAX mode.
o The time to answer the call is too long. Decrease the number of
rings (p. 74, 81, 105).
o The greeting message is too long. Shorten the message (p. 91).
The display shows “CONNECTING....”
but faxes are not received.
o The incoming call is not a fax. Change the receive mode.
The recording image is faint.
o The sender transmitted a faint document. Ask them to transmit a
clearer copy of the document,
o The thermal head is dirty. Clean it (p. 120).
The printing quality is poor.
o Some paper has instructions recommending which side to print on.
Try turning the paper over. We recommend smooth paper such as
Hammermill® Jet Print for clearer printing.
A blank sheet is ejected after the
received documents are printed out.
o The receiving reduction rate is not programmed correctly. Program
the proper rate {p. 83).

I cannot select the desired receive
mode.
o If you set the TAD/FAX, FAX ONLY or TEL/FAX mode:
- Select the desired mode using feature #77 (p. 73), and
- Press [AUTO ANSVi^ to turn on the AUTO ANSWER light.
