Bitporter User Guide

After the installation completes, the script ends with the following message:

Bitporter USB driver, version x.y.z, installed.

Note:

Linux USB Bitporter connections are currently only supported on CentOS 5 and 6 or RHEL 5

and 6. Other Linux releases are not supported by Achronix, but may work if they include udev.

ACE, the STAPL Player, and USB Bitporter Drivers

Important!

Disconnect any attached Bitporter pods from the host PC before installing the ACE

software suite and associated Bitporter USB drivers.

Important!

Do not install both ACE and the standalone STAPL player on the same machine.

Important!

Be sure to uninstall all previous installations of Achronix software and reboot before

running the ACE Windows installer.

When the ACE software suite is installed, it already includes a copy of the acx_stapl_player
and the Bitporter USB drivers. The installation of ACE is covered in a separate document, the
Achronix Software & License User Guide (UG002).

The acx_stapl_player provided with ACE

After ACE is installed, the associated acx_stapl_player will be found at:

/system/cmd/acx_stapl_player

ACE will use the acx_stapl_player found at this location for all Bitporter interactions.

Users may also utilize this acx_stapl_player from the command‐line if desired. (The Windows
installers will automatically add this location to the PATH environment variable.)

Important!

Special note for Linux ACE users:

While ACE itself is a 64‐bit executable, the acx_stapl_player is a 32‐bit executable

*

, and

requires 32‐bit shared libraries. Dependencies upon the libraries libX11.so.6 and
libusb-0.1.so.4

 must be satisfied.

Example: On a clean CentOS 6.4 x86_64 installation, by calling yum provides with the
libraries listed above, it was determined that the following additional software (each with their
own dependency hierarchies) had to be downloaded and installed from the distro’s repositories:
libX11-1.5.0-4.el6.i686

libusb-0.1.12-23.el6.i686
Achronix strongly recommends getting help from a system administrator before running yum.

The Bitporter USB drivers provided with ACE

The Bitporter USB drivers are present in the ACE software distribution.

Windows

In  Windows,  the  ACE  installer  will  automatically  install  the  Bitporter’s  USB  drivers  if  the
ʺBitporter Pod USB Driversʺ checkbox was selected during installation.

*.

This is due primarily to our JTAG pod vendor’s API limitations. Achronix is working with our
vendors to remove all 32-bit library dependencies for a future version of the acx_stapl_player.
