Installation Guidelines
Keep a static-sensitive component in its antistatic packing material until you are ready
to install the component in the computer. Just before unwrapping the antistatic pack-
aging, discharge static electricity from your body.
Make sure you have adequate lighting and a clean work space. If you temporarily dis-
connect cables or remove expansion cards, note the position of the connectors and
slots so that you can reassemble the system correctly. Also note the extra connectors

Removing and Replacing the Computer
Cover
To remove the computer cover, perform the following steps:
1.
Observe the “Caution for Your Personal Safety and Protection of Your Equip-

ment” found earlier in this chapter. Also, observe the safety instructions at the
front of this guide.
NOTICE: To avoid inadvertently damaging the system board, be sure you
disconnect the computer’s power cable from the electrical outlet and from
the back of the chassis before removing the computer cover. The system
board continues to receive a small amount of power when the system is
turned off and attached to an electrical outlet (the system-board power
indicator light [see Figure 2-5] is on when power is detected.)

Face the front of the chassis. Place your left hand on the left side of the chassis.
Push back the release latch at the top back edge of the chassis (see Figure 2-1) to
