Install Steering Tie Rods

65. Locate the two tie rod assemblies. Set the length

between the end bolt center-lines

depending on

the row spacing of the planter:

Refer to Figure 45 (which depicts correct thread coverage on
the left, and insufficient coverage on the right)
66. Adjust both tie rods to the same length

. Adjust for

these objectives:

• The rods are installed with the tie end bolts down.

• Screw the rods and tie ends into the sleeves far

enough so that there is thread under the entire
width of the clamps.

• Align the sleeve gaps to face generally down, so

moisture drains, and debris does not accumulate.

• Align the clamps with their openings down as well.

• Re-check length after adjusting orientation.

Refer to Figure 46 (which depicts sleeve clamps up - orient
them down for final tightening)
67. Install the tie rods between the center arm and

caster arms. Adjust caster wheel pivoting as neces-
sary to align holes with bolts.

68. Pivot both casters until the tires are close to full trail-

ing (straight running) orientation and the steering
arm

is straight ahead.

69. Measure the distance between tire tread center-

lines at the front of the wheels and the rear of the
wheels. If they are not equal, adjust one or both tie
rod sleeves to make them equal. Maintain adequate
clamp coverage on threads.

Note: Do NOT have any toe in or toe out.

70. Tighten clamp bolts.

Note: When completely assembled as a check for correct

installation and adjustment of steering compo-
nents: move casters to the far left, both the left and
right casters should be against the stops. Then
move casters to the far right, both casters should
be against the stops.
