Problem Cause Remedy
MCS – vacuum pump
defective. Contact the Metrohm Service.
Background conduc-
tivity too high MSM – not connected. Connect the MSM (see Chapter 2.18, page
56).
MCS – not connected. Connect the MCS.
Incorrect eluent. Change eluent (see Chapter 4.4.2.3, page 76).
MSM – regeneration or
rinsing solution flow prob-
lems. Check the flow of the regeneration and rinsing
solution (see Chapter 2.18.2, page 56).
Data of the separa-
tion column cannot
be read. Column chip contamina-
ted. Clean contact surfaces of the column chip
(with alcohol).
Column chip defective. 1. Save column configuration in MagIC Net.
2. Notify Metrohm Service.
Individual peaks
greater than expec-
ted Sample – Carry-over of the
samples from previous
measurement. Rinse system longer between two samples.
MSM – No (or insuf-
ficient) pumping of
regeneration or rins-
ing solution Leak in the system. Check connections.
Peristaltic pump – contact
pressure too weak. Correctly set contact pressure (see "Set flow
rate", page 50).
Peristaltic pump – filter
blocked (see Figure 31,
page 48). Replace the filter (see "Replacing the filter",
page 99).
MSM – backpressure too
high. Clean the MSM (see Chapter 4.13.3.2, page
102) or replace parts (see Chapter 4.13.3.3,
page 104).
Peristaltic pump – pump
tubing defective. Replace pump tubing (see Figure 30, page 47).
Poor reproducibility
of the retention
times Eluent – Leak in the eluent
path. Check the eluent path.
Eluent – Blockage in the
eluent path. Check the eluent path.
Chromatograms
have poor resolution Separation column –
diminished separating effi-
ciency. ￭ Regenerate separation column (see Chap-
