Troubleshooting

Valve does not fully CLOSE or
OPEN - locking operation. • See Section “ Valve does not fully CLOSE or OPEN - manual operation.,” on page 22.
• Inspect the valve ball and valve seals for foreign debris, deterioration, or damage that
could cause interference between the valve ball and the seals or valve body, hindering
proper operation.
Valve “Locking Cam” does not
lock. • Check the assembly for looseness or for play by moving the handle (open and close).
Also move the handle up and down checking for excess play.
• If excess play exists, remove the handle, upper bearing cover and locking cover. See
Section 6, heading “ Disassemble the Valve,” on page 28.
• Check the valve stem for excessive side-to-side play, indicating possible worn valve
stem bushing.
• Inspect the valve lock spring for defect, e.g. break, weakness, etc. If valve lock spring
is suspect, replace the spring - order Hale p/n: 042-081000-0. See Section 6, head-
ing “ Disassemble the Valve,” on page 28.
• Also see Figure 6-1: “SVS Non-Locking and Locking Valve Overview” on page 28.
Clean as needed.
• Replace and/or replace accordingly.
Excessive travel is necessary
to operate the valve. • Verify that the valve locking cover is installed properly. (See Figure 6-4: “Installing
Locking Valve Stem,” on page 32.)
Suspected Slow-Close actua-
tor option malfunction. • See Section 6a, heading “6a.3 Troubleshooting,” on page 39.
Suspected gear or electric
actuator option malfunction. • See Section 6a, heading “6a.3 Troubleshooting,” on page 39.
