Valve leaks.
• Isolate the location of the leak. Is the valve leaking internally (leaking when closed),
or externally (possibly through a seal)?
• Shut down the pump and verify system pressure has been relieved.
WARNING !
BEFORE BEGINNING ANY INSPECTION, INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE OR
SERVICE OF ANY KIND ON THE EQUIPMENT, VERIFY THE PRESSURE HAS
BEEN RELEASED FROM THE SYSTEM. LOCK OUT THE EQUIPMENT IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDATIONS.
• External leak:
• If the leak appears to be coming from between the valve and the pump side or out-
board adapter, first loosen the four adapter mounting screws then retighten and
torque to 25 ft.-lbs. (34 N-m) in a criss-cross pattern to ensure an EVEN seal. Also
see heading “Installation Guidelines” on page 15.
• If the leakage appears to be coming from the valve stem area, remove the valve han-
dle / levers and top covers to expose the valve stem. See Section “6.3 Servicing the
Valve,” on page 27.
• Examine the O-ring seal and the thrust washer in the valve stem for deterioration or
damage (cracks, splits, flat spots. etc.). Replace accordingly. Order Hale Level 2
repair kit,. See Section 7 “SVS Valve Overhaul Kits,” on page 43.
• Internal leak (through ball):
• Visually inspect the valve ball to insure the valve closes all the way. OPEN and
CLOSE the valve a few times to ensure it fully CLOSES.
• Inspect the valve body O-ring seals for deterioration or damage. Order the Hale Level
1 repair kit. See Section 7 “SVS Valve Overhaul Kits,” on page 43.
• Check the valve body mounting screws. The four mounting screws must be tightened
and torqued to 20 ft.-lbs. (27 N-m) in a criss-cross pattern to ensure an EVEN seal.
Also see heading “Installation Guidelines” on page 15.
• Inspect the valve ball and ball seals for foreign debris, deterioration or damage
(cracks, splits, flat spots, etc.). Order Hale Level 2 repair kit. See Section 7 “SVS
Valve Overhaul Kits,” on page 43.
Valve does not fully CLOSE or
OPEN - manual operation.
Note: The valve must close fully
before actuator makes contact with
the valve STOP.
Chart continued on next page.
• Inspect the actuator lever for proper installation on the valve stem. See Section “3.2
Changing the Valve Handle Position,” on page 17.
• Remove and dismantle the valve as necessary. See Section 6, heading “ Removing
• Inspect the valve ball and valve seals for foreign debris, deterioration, or damage that
could cause interference between the valve ball and the seals or valve body, hindering
proper operation.
