Appendix 5 Virtual Private Network Setting
Virtual Private Networking (VPN) is a security technology that enables secure communication
between business sites as if they were connected by a leased line although they actually
communicate via the Internet.
This section explains how to configure VPN to use a LAN in an HEW environment.
1 Connection between Windows NT Server and Windows NT
Workstation
1.1 Connection Configuration
In this configuration, a Windows NT workstation is a guest and a Windows NT server is a
host.
Here, a connected PC is referred to as a host and a connecting PC is referred to as a guest.
1.2 Host Configuration Procedure
Add Network Protocol
Select “Network,” “Properties,” and then the “Protocols” tab
Open [Network] [Properties] and then click the [Protocols] tab.
Click the [Add] button.
Select Network Protocol window
In the [Select Network Protocol] window, select [Point To Point Tunneling Protocol] in
[Network Protocol], and click [OK].
PPTP Configuration window
Set [Number of Virtual Private Networks], and click [OK].
In the [Setup Message] dialog box, click [OK].
Add RAS Device window
In the [Add RAS Device] window, select [RAS Capable Devices] and then click [OK].
Remote Access Setup window
Click [Configure].
