1. Power down the server (on page 16 ).
2. Remove all power:
a. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
3. Do one of the following:
o Extend the server from the rack (on page 17 ).
o Remove the server from the rack (on page 16 ).
4. Remove the access panel (on page 19 ).
5. Install the storage controller.
6. Connect all cabling to the Smart Array controller. For more information see the document included with
the controller option.
7. Install the access panel (on page 19 ).
8. Install the server into the rack (" Installing the server into the rack " on page 28 ).
9. Install the drives (" Drive options " on page 31 ).
CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server unless
all bays are populated with either a component or a blank.
10. Power up the server (on page 16 ).

Installing the FBWC module and capacitor pack
1. Power down the server (on page 16 ).
2. Remove all power:
a. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
3. Do one of the following:
o Extend the server from the rack (on page 17 ).
o Remove the server from the rack (on page 16 ).
4. Remove the access panel (on page 19 ).
5. Remove the processor air baffle (on page 20 ).
6. Remove the PCI riser cage (on page 21 ).
CAUTION: When connecting or disconnecting the capacitor pack cable, the connectors on the
cache module and cable are susceptible to damage. Avoid excessive force and use caution to
avoid damage to these connectors.
