2 Before you begin

IMPORTANT:

NSDEE 3.0 has changed significantly since NSDEE 2.1. NSDEE 2.1 and NSDEE

3.0 local projects are not compatible. For details, refer to

“What's New at NSDEE 3.0?” (page 148)

.

NSDEE provides capabilities for building applications on both local Windows and remote NonStop
systems. Local Windows-hosted builds require a make program (as provided by Cygwin or Msys)
and cross compilers for building NonStop applications on Windows. Remote NonStop-hosted
builds typically require the use of make (OSS) or gmake (Guardian) and native compilers for
NonStop systems.

To use NSDEE for either local or remote builds, you will need to have installed both Eclipse Indigo
and C/C++ Development Tooling (CDT) 8.0. Both are available on the NSDEE installation media.
The NSDEE installation media also includes the NSDEE 3.0 Quick Start which provides instructions
for installing these items and NSDEE 3.0.

Local Windows-hosted builds also require Cywin or Mysys (for make-driven builds—both are
available on the NSDEE installation media), as well NonStop cross compilers and, for SQL/MX
applications, an SQL/MX preprocessor. Cross compilers and the SQL/MX preprocessor are sold
separately from NSDEE.

This manual supplements the Eclipse Workbench Guide and the C/C++ Development User Guide
(both of which are included online with Eclipse and CDT). See the Eclipse Workbench Guide for
basic information on using Eclipse. See the C/C++ Development User Guide for more information
about using CDT.
