Preserving Cartridges
For longer life of recorded or unrecorded cartridges, store cartridges in a clean
environment with these conditions:
•
Protect cartridges from shock, vibration, moisture and magnetic fields.
•
Do not drop or bang the cartridge. This can displace the tape leader, making the
cartridge unusable and may damage the drive.
•
If you drop a cartridge, perform a visual media inspection before inserting it into the
drive.
•
Store cartridge vertically when not in use.
•
Store the data cartridge in the plastic enclosure it was shipped in.
•
Never touch the tape or tape leader. Dust and oils from your skill will contaminate
the tape and affect performance.
•
Keep tape cartridges out of direct sunlight and away from heaters.
•
Store tape cartridge in temperatures between 10°C and 40°C (50°F to 104°F). For
longer cartridge life, always store the cartridge in its plastic container and in room
environment conditions of 72°F± 7°F (22°± 4°C).
