If the Spectrum is Noisy

Lamp is weak
The lamp has a finite
lifetime
Replace the lamp
The absorbance is weak or
% T is very high (noisy
spectrum)
The sample is too dilute or
too thin
Prepare a more
concentrated sample
Use Spectrum Averaging
to reduce noise (Section
5.4)
The absorbance is too
strong
The sample is too
concentrated or thick
Dilute the sample or
reduce its thickness
Cable is loose
Check all cables for good
contact
Fiber optic cable is
defective
Replace fiber optic cable
Transient internal
spectrometer fault
Remove USB cable and
re-insert
Defect in Spectrometer
Contact Polychromix or its
local representative
